The school market garden
Waami Galou is a school complex near Hombori with 320 students coming from many surrounding villages.
The aim of the Headmaster and the village Chief is to teach the pupils how to cultivate the land independently. This will allow them to supply the school canteen and the local market with their own products. The proceeds of this business will also go towards scholarships for worthy students.
The project also included the realisation of a well to assure there is enough drinking water for the school and, at the same time, water to irrigate the market garden.
An agronomy course is being set up to teach basic cultivation skills.
Tomorrow
The final goal is to stimulate the development of similar initiatives in the Region.
