Palliative care
The Tempus programme was the launching pad for setting up the project for palliative medicine. After having participated in the European tender in 2006, the Foundation started a solid collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Florence to promote this kind of clinical approach also to Serbian and Croatian doctors.
Palliative medicine is centred on the quality of life, even at the terminal stage of an illness one can provide psychological and spiritual support to patients. In this sense, the control of pain and other symptoms and the possibility of staying at home in the family are key factors.
Today and tomorrow
In its dual role as co-financer and partner, the Foundation succeeded in lending force to the project by monitoring its realisation.
The objective of the project was on the one hand to bring palliative medicine to Serbia and Croatia and on the other to teach how to apply this methodology.
Together with its partners the Foundation worked on several fronts to offer students and doctors from Belgrade and Zagreb the chance to attend follow-up workshops in the Universities of Florence and Lyon.
The project officially ended on August 31st 2009 but as it has been so successful, all the partners involved have decided to continue their collaboration for the future.
